This is one that needed to be made Razz I'll kick it off.

I have no idea what the difference is between a drum fill and a drum roll.

From my understanding a fill was a short interlude in the beat, a quick short burst of creativity to break things up. But isn't a roll more or less the same thing? Or does it just include use of toms (if it uses cymbals its suddenly a fill)? or is there some time limit (oops, you were half a second too long; thats now a fill)? scratch

Bleh.

Oh, and I dont think Julian does either. Even where he once dissected the drums into describing the timbre of each individual cymbal, he still left it as "fills and rolls" Razz

Drum fill = short little "drum solo", exactly like a guitar fill

Drum roll = a specific technique, created by rapid strokes to make a "sustained" sound as if it were a long note. It's usually like RLRLRLRLRLRLRL or RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL, etc.

On occasion, I enjoy Dashboard Confessional and The Spill Canvas.

*sigh*, there I said it!

Confession: I'm skipping class right now because I'd rather be online, listening to music and taking a piss.

two bass drums or one bass drum and a double kick pedal

so you can have two of these, each attached to one bass drum:

or you can have one of these attached to one bass drum:

EDIT: if you're looking for an example in a song, listen to the drum fill/roll/thingy right after the solo in Angel of Death

As in, they have double bass drums. It's pretty much the foundation for all modern metal.

I have given up on getting him into more underground metal. He's like 7 years older than me and still listens to deathcore and groove metal primarily.

Whenever he asks for a deathcore cd I usually burn about 4 good death metal cds to go along with it. For some reason he liked Whitechapel more than Neoplasmah and Decapitated. Sad

Wrong way to do it. Just slip one or two in instead of the other tracks and see if he notices. Eventually increase the number until you can say "Y'know that Ion Dissonance album you've been loving? I actually burnt you Project Hate instead."

My brothers are like that too. I've learned that Metalhead conversion is only possible if the person starts to show a genuine love for music. If they are "casual listeners", they usual fall for the catchy stuff. That too for a limited amount of time till they find another colorful artist to bob their head to.

He is a pretty die-hard fan. He's not just a casual listener. He goes to shows alot and buys alot of cd's but I guess deathcore and groove metal are his thing.

don't try converting people, you'll just make yourself look like an ass
recommend them the big bands when they ask for something, but don't force your bands on them

Well he does like metal and I just wanted to try to show him more of the underground. He's the reason I'm into metal so I tried to repay the favor.
