I'm going to your continent this summer, flying into Germany. I'm trying to figure out what other countries to go and would appreciate any recommendations. Some other information; I'm meeting my sister when her semester abroad is finished, hopefully going for a month.

Bleh, Pc lagged on the send. Ok, i'll make it neater this time.

Italy

1) Rome for the History. It really is a small but incredibly beautiful city, so definitely a must imo.
2) Naples. They invented both Ice Cream and Pizza, and still make it better than anyone else.
3) Venice. I've never been, but I've been told its fantastic.

Croatia

1) Dubrovnik. Nice for relaxation, its quiet (not a place many tourists visit), by the sea and very clean.
2) Split/Zagreb. Probably more to do but im not sure what they're like. Actually, I've never been to Croatia, but Dubrovnik is definitely on my to-do list, after Budapest and Japan.

Hungary

1) Budapest. Another city, with some great architecture in particular. Its colder than the other other two, but...well put it this way, two of my friends went over there and decided they'd rather not come back.

Greece

1) Athens - to be honest, despite having the Parthenon, its a pretty grubby looking city. For my money, I'd rather spend it on
2) Thessaloniki - The second biggest city, with almost the same number (if not as well known) historical sites. Also, the people in Athens are assholes. Like stereotypical New Yorker level of asshole.
3) Mykanos - One of the Greek islands, whilst there's less to do its a small island, meaning awesome snorkelling places. If you hunt about, you may even find a place that will let you do some rec diving.

England

1) London, probably should get a mention. I'm probably the person who knows it best, seeing as I lived there for over three years, and still aren't far away. There are some awesome museums (National History, Science, British, Museum of London, etc, etc), some great Theatre's, Monuments, features, and transport is a breeze, but its very expensive. If you do go, look for a place in either the North or the West, as its a lot nicer. South is chav-land and east is the cheap side. The plus side of this though; Me, Will and Bidwell all live close enough. You can introduce us to your sister Razz

Anyway, hope that helps a bit. If anywhere else springs to mind i'll let you know.

It's not tourist-free (in fact, there are quite a few in the summer), but the beaches are great, and it's plenty warm. Also, things are generally cheaper there than in the rest of Europe (they're not in the EU...yet). The food's pretty good too, and as long as you stay along the coast/around touristy areas like Zagreb, the language shouldn't be a problem since the people at restaurants and such generally speak English, German, and Italian in addition to Croatian (and the menus are in these 4 languages too).

Damn. It was apparently almost tourist free maybe 4 or 5 years back, when my mate offered me a place to crash.

Alright cool, keep it coming. I definitely wanna go to Prague and see Wenceslas Square. Croatia would be awesome too, especially since it's my top choice for Global Student Teaching next year. I have a bunch of crazy ideas like going to Iceland and Greenland, or Spain and Morocco, keep ideas coming I wanna weigh all my options.

+2 for Dubrovnik. I went about three years ago and it was beautiful. There's the historic shit (you're a history buff iirc) if you want to do that and they also have a good night scene. I saw one of the guys from Ace of Base because he was the DJ at a club I went to.

Lisbon, Portugal was beautiful when I went four years ago. From what I remember, things there are relatively cheap in comparison to the rest of Europe. If you have a rudimentary knowledge of romance languages it helps but you should be fine with English. The food is amazing.

Istanbul is a good city to go to as well because it's cheap and there's plenty of stuff to do.

Athens is meh. Super touristy which was kind of annoying but of course seeing stuff like the Parthenon was pretty cool.

Why I said Thessaloniki. Far less tourists, and it still has a lot of cool stuff there.

Iceland and Greenland have virtually nothing there, and are both cold and desolate places. I had a mate who went to Reykjavik for geological surveys and said it was the most boring place he'd ever seen.

Spain is a huge tourist place so be careful there - Portugal might be a better bet tbh - and Morocco isn't in Europe Razz

Iceland has tons of lakes and glaciers, plus their language is so cool. As for Greenland I just want to go for like a day to experience such an extreme place. I know Morocco isn't Europe, neither is Greenland haha, but their proximity to Europe makes them possible if unlikely destinations.
