So I just got back from Inglorious Bastards, which is apparently spelled with an 'e' through the whole movie, and I thought it was possibly the best movie of the summer, though not quite up to par with QT's earlier work. Discuss.

Between Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, I think he is a very good film maker. Despite that piece of shit known as Death Proof.

I thought Tarintino was behind Planet Terror, not Death Proof.

Nope. He directed Death proof. Robert Rodriguez directed Planet Terror. I preferred Planet Terror. Though I didn't really like either that much.

I thought Basterds was up there with Pulp Fiction. Pretty damn cinematic and the ending is so fucking badass I can't bear to not talk about it.

At the end, my friend turned to me and said "This has tremendous geopolitical implications." hahahaha

I haven't seen Death Proof. Is it even worth it?

I left Grindhouse after Planet Terror ended, so couldn't tell you.

IB is right behind Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction in my personal rankings.

I've now seen the first of the "Female Prisoner" series and see where he gets his inspiration from. He isnt as good though, there's something about the low-budget goodness that he misses...

Also, Trier's Anti-christ is gonna be a BITCH to top. I haven't seen it yet, but im not holding my breath...

IB definitely had shades of Kill Bill Pt.2 in it. The dialogue scenes were ace, especially the opening one - Christopher Plummer deserves some recognition for his role.

Also, what did everyone think of Eli Roth in the film?

I've been meaning to watch those two movies for a couple years now. Always forget to rent them. >.<
I've never heard good things about Kill Bill, though. Is it actually worth it?

I think so. To be honest. I disliked the first film. But watching the second made me appreciate the first more. He wanted to release them together. I think it would have been great, and long. Razz

Cool. I'll check them out then.

I think Inglorious Basterds was the first Tarantino film I've seen. Now I want to see more of his other work though. I loved that movie.

Yeah, I though IB was excellent. It's very idiosyncratic and some people may not like that, but I really liked that aspect of it.

Am I the only one who thinks he hasn't released something excellent since those early 90s films? (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Four Rooms, etc). He takes strong 'influences' (read; rips off scenes he likes - particularly in Kill Bill which was all a blur of Baby Cart, Female Prisoner and Lady Snowblood anyway) that often dont match up to the original. Im more curious to see where his idea's came from, finding the 'original' rather than the 'remake' if you will.

I haven't seen Inglorious Basterds yet, but I agree with you Thomas. Tarantino is no longer a visionary director, but a guy that gives great movie recommendations.

I've just felt like the past several years he's gone this direction of ironically making intentional crap (Kill Bill, Death Proof, etc. even Sukiyaki Western Django, which he was only an actor in, but still contributed to its low level of quality). Granted, I haven't seen Death Proof or the second volume of Kill Bill, but that's just the vibe I've gotten. IB didn't feel that way to me at all though.

I haven't watched Sukiyaki Western Django yet, but from reading a synopsis of it it almost seems like Miike was bringing the Yojimbo story back to Japan, but using A Fistful of Dollars as his inspiration.

Death Proof was a huge disappointment for me. Planet Terror actually felt like a Grindhouse homage, Death Proof just felt like an in-joke that the viewer didnt get. Kill Bill 2 was worse than the original - the ending was cliche and disappointing, and no fight matched that 'crazy 88' fight.

No, I still have Miike's Shinjuku Triad Society (Still missing part III >.<), Female Prisoner Trilogy and Lady Snowblood duology sitting on my shelf awaiting my keen eyes.

Who else here has seen 'From Dusk Til Dawn'? I thought it was sort of ho-hum. Some entertaining moments, but generally too clichéd and predictable.

From Dusk 'til Dawn is Rodriguez, not Tarantino.
