So I'm adding this section as there are aspects to the board different to that on Facebook. If you have any questions regarding them, shoot.
To kick it off:
Points SystemThis has no bearing on your abilities to post or whatnot, but acts as a sort of 'automatic status,' much like the officer position. You can obtain points in a number of ways:
Posting - One point per post.
Making a new thread - one point per thread, except in the Writers Den, Debaters Den or Music News, which yields five.
Reputation - 25 points per reputation point.
You can give others reputation by hitting the reputation button on the right of the post, emerging once you reach 25 posts. Currently, the reputation can also be viewed on your profile, but this will eventually be removed. Reputation should be given for a strength or weakness of argument, or for giving you a helpful/unhelpful response. It should
NOT be used to show an argument you agree with, or for someone posting your favourite band.
ChatboxAt the bottom of the index page is a chatbox which you can sign into. This acts in a similar manner to the wall, except automatically refreshes meaning you can see posts as they are made (like an instant messenger). You can also hit the with archives' button to see all the posts that have been made. Currently it times you out after 15 minutes and sadly I see no way to amend this. On the far left it shows all users logged into the chatbox, and those with an '@' by their name are those with control over it; they are able to kick and ban users from the chatbox. If you are kicked/banned from the chatbox it can be removed, and regardless of your status will
not affect your ability to post.
CalendarYes, we now have a calender. If you wish to submit an event, you can add things to the calender in the news forum. The thoughts behind this is if you wanted to post a tour, you can have a 'xxx tour' thread and input the dates. This will automatically show on the calender cleverly linked at the top of the navigation bar.
You can write entries into the Calendar in the "News" Forum. When making a new thread, below the text box are a number of options, including the Calendar. Simply input the start date, and enter how many days the event lasts for and submit the thread (once the body has been created) and it will be added to the calendar.
PollsIn a similar fashion to the Calendar, below this box is the option to create a poll. Simply enter the question and any of the answers in the box below, allowing a single line break between each option and submit the thread as you would ordinarily.
CommandsYes, it supports BBCode commands, a few of which I will add (remove the dot from the commands - its only there so I can type it tongue)
[b.][/b.] Bold
[i.][/i.] Italic
[u.][/u.] Underline
[url.][/url.] Link
[url=Address here]Text[/url.] Link with text
[youtube.][/youtube] Embed video
[img.][/img.] Display image
[quote="Username".][/quote] Quotation
[color=red/blue/green/pink/purple.] Change text colour.
Advanced CommandsSo now HTML has been added, and one command in particular may be useful; the ability to resize images.
<.img src="Insert Link Here" Width="xxx" Height="xxx">
The width and height can of course be varied to what you wish, though its recommended to not go beyond a width of 600 nor a height of 300.
BotsSo I thought I'd add another little about them. As you may have noticed we occasionally get visits from a google bot (and lately a Yahoo bot). All this means is that its updating their cache of the site for archiving in the search engine.
Signatures and AvatarsAs many have already noticed, you are allowed to add both signatures to the end of your post, and an avatar image to your posts. Both are allowed to be animated but come with constraints.
AvatarsHeight - 150 pixels
Width - 200 pixels
File Size - 64Kb
SignaturesHeight - 150 pixels
Width - 800 pixels
File Size - 200Kb
The reason for the size constraints are to retain the shape of the forum - if your avatar or signature is larger than this it may 'stretch' the forum across. The size restraints are in place to make sure threads don't spend too long opening all the images, resulting in long refresh times. (If you are experiencing slow load times, set cached images on your browser. This will temporarily store the images on your hard disk to load the page quicker).
If you need to resize an image, then you can do so
here.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
