So I'm adding this section as there are aspects to the board different to that on Facebook. If you have any questions regarding them, shoot.

To kick it off:

Points System

This has no bearing on your abilities to post or whatnot, but acts as a sort of 'automatic status,' much like the officer position. You can obtain points in a number of ways:

Posting - One point per post.
Making a new thread - one point per thread, except in the Writers Den, Debaters Den or Music News, which yields five.
Reputation - 25 points per reputation point.

You can give others reputation by hitting the reputation button on the right of the post, emerging once you reach 25 posts. Currently, the reputation can also be viewed on your profile, but this will eventually be removed. Reputation should be given for a strength or weakness of argument, or for giving you a helpful/unhelpful response. It should NOT be used to show an argument you agree with, or for someone posting your favourite band.

Chatbox

At the bottom of the index page is a chatbox which you can sign into. This acts in a similar manner to the wall, except automatically refreshes meaning you can see posts as they are made (like an instant messenger). You can also hit the with archives' button to see all the posts that have been made. Currently it times you out after 15 minutes and sadly I see no way to amend this. On the far left it shows all users logged into the chatbox, and those with an '@' by their name are those with control over it; they are able to kick and ban users from the chatbox. If you are kicked/banned from the chatbox it can be removed, and regardless of your status will not affect your ability to post.

Calendar

Yes, we now have a calender. If you wish to submit an event, you can add things to the calender in the news forum. The thoughts behind this is if you wanted to post a tour, you can have a 'xxx tour' thread and input the dates. This will automatically show on the calender cleverly linked at the top of the navigation bar.

You can write entries into the Calendar in the "News" Forum. When making a new thread, below the text box are a number of options, including the Calendar. Simply input the start date, and enter how many days the event lasts for and submit the thread (once the body has been created) and it will be added to the calendar.

Polls

In a similar fashion to the Calendar, below this box is the option to create a poll. Simply enter the question and any of the answers in the box below, allowing a single line break between each option and submit the thread as you would ordinarily.

Commands

Yes, it supports BBCode commands, a few of which I will add (remove the dot from the commands - its only there so I can type it tongue)

[b.][/b.] Bold
[i.][/i.] Italic
[u.][/u.] Underline
[url.][/url.] Link
[url=Address here]Text[/url.] Link with text
[youtube.][/youtube] Embed video
[img.][/img.] Display image
[quote="Username".][/quote] Quotation
[color=red/blue/green/pink/purple.] Change text colour.

Advanced Commands

So now HTML has been added, and one command in particular may be useful; the ability to resize images.

<.img src="Insert Link Here" Width="xxx" Height="xxx">

The width and height can of course be varied to what you wish, though its recommended to not go beyond a width of 600 nor a height of 300.

Bots

So I thought I'd add another little about them. As you may have noticed we occasionally get visits from a google bot (and lately a Yahoo bot). All this means is that its updating their cache of the site for archiving in the search engine.

Signatures and Avatars

As many have already noticed, you are allowed to add both signatures to the end of your post, and an avatar image to your posts. Both are allowed to be animated but come with constraints.

Avatars
Height - 150 pixels
Width - 200 pixels
File Size - 64Kb

Signatures
Height - 150 pixels
Width - 800 pixels
File Size - 200Kb

The reason for the size constraints are to retain the shape of the forum - if your avatar or signature is larger than this it may 'stretch' the forum across. The size restraints are in place to make sure threads don't spend too long opening all the images, resulting in long refresh times. (If you are experiencing slow load times, set cached images on your browser. This will temporarily store the images on your hard disk to load the page quicker).

If you need to resize an image, then you can do so here.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Press the Log in button. It wont need you to type anything, it'll just log you in. It'll disconnect you after about 15mins though. You can check the archive with the archive button, so It sort of acts like the wall as well.

Just to clarify, the "link with text" command, is that where it's text but when you click on it it's a link thingy? (I'm such a techy bastard)

Carl: Yeah, its a link to a specific site that instead of displaying the site address displays any text you want. In fact...*wonders if it would work*

EDIT: It does. You can place images inside the url command to have images link to sites Very Happy

I've already had a couple of questions regarding this and what its for. It has no bearing on your abilities to post or whatnot, but acts as a sort of 'automatic status,' much like the officer position. Any member can contribute by either thanking people in threads they have made (a nice 'thank you' button emerges) or whacking the +/- buttons at the right of the post. In the music discussions forums and the debate thread this adds two points of reputation to the recipient. Elsewhere only one point.

I'm having trouble finding where to do this. All that I ever see on the right side of the posts is the quote button and occasionally a random green line that doesn't appear to do anything. Do I need to achieve a certain rank or something before I can give reputation points? If not, then either I'm looking in the wrong place or something could be wrong on my end, I don't really know.

Yeah you have to post a certain number of times before you get to give people reputation points. It was to avoid people who join, say Korn is the best Metal band eva, and then get told that Korn a)sucks b)isn't really metal, then they get but hurt and destroy everyone's reps. The green bar on the side is when someone has given you rep points, and I believe it is red if someone gives you negative rep points.

To prevent random idiots joining, getting told slipknot aren't DM and neg repping everyone in a spree, its set to emerge when you hit 25 posts.

Speaking of Reputation, after you vote it just sits on the "Your vote has been cast!" page. Is there a way to make it automatically go back to the post?

Here is a question about the titles you receive after so many posts. How do I go from being the title of an Emperor song to being a Mantooth? scratch Am I missing some inside joke? I though Mantooth was Seth's nickname and something to do with being a n00b? If this is not the case fine. But what is he deal? scratch

I think it's awesome. Seth is definitely a more metal 12 yr old than I was.

I am not upset about it. But the progression from a Emperor song to a n00b(if that is what it means) make little sense. In the end I could care less. Just curious is all.

Id count knowing no more than emperor less than being as knowledgeable as Mantooth. The guy already has a wider knowledge than many twice his age.

If I remember correctly it is actually Seth's middlename. At least I think he told me that, but Seth has lied to me about other things so who knows....... As far as why Bawden chose it I also can't comment.

As for Seth, I think he may be in trouble. If we think he is so cool, it probably means that when the kid gets older he won't be able to get laid even if he is running on the deck of the pussy pool.

Since we had a couple of questions about it.

Signatures and Avatars

As many have already noticed, you are allowed to add both signatures to the end of your post, and an avatar image to your posts. Both are allowed to be animated but come with constraints.

Avatars
Height - 150 pixels
Width - 200 pixels
File Size - 64Kb

Signatures
Height - 150 pixels
Width - 600 pixels
File Size - 200Kb

The reason for the size constraints are to retain the shape of the forum - if your avatar or signature is larger than this it may 'stretch' the forum across. The size restraints are in place to make sure threads don't spend too long opening all the images, resulting in long refresh times. (If you are experiencing slow load times, set cached images on your browser. This will temporarily store the images on your hard disk to load the page quicker).

If you need to resize an image, then you can do so here.
