This is just a mindtrick. Its through the power of suggestion he convinces people they will be stuck in their seats by the film, so they are. Everyone had different effects - some went numb in their legs, some could move their backs and arms, one called in and couldn't get up before the film, etc, etc - concluding it was literally through the power of suggestion. Placebo affect anyone? Phantom pregnancies?

The only reason he would have been allowed to do that on TV is because he's shit and only the gullible could fall for his failed attempt at hypnotism.
