Go to a 2nd-hand music store and get the biggest, loudest amp you can afford.

There are only three options for the playing of DOOM. Sunn O))), which they don't make any more I believe. Orange(High on Fire, Boris, Fireball Ministry, Sleep) or Marshall.

Check out a Mesa. Versatile, crunchy, and excellent.

You can still get you hands on Sunn stuff, but people who have it know that people want it and they charge an arm and a leg. I totally forgot about Orange though.

Marshall is just overpriced. You pay for the name. Unless I got some old Marshall shit.

The newer Laney amps may not be a bad option. You may want to add an OD in front of it to color the tone to your choosing though. These new Laneys tend to be very middish. If you can get your hands on a AOR series (like the one in the link), that would be a good choice.

Orange amps are great too, but they're hella expensive.

Old marshalls wouldn't be a bad idea. The new ones aren't as "lush-sounding" as the older ones IMO.

A Mesa/Boogie could do the trick, you just gotta mess around with the tone controls a bit.

An old ampeg V-4 would be your best bet for the money IMO. Damn good amps, and they aren't too expensive ($800 for one in mint condition).

Old Crate amps (the ones made in the US by SLM, a.k.a, AMPEG) might not be a bad option.

But if you can get your hands on an old Sunn Model T, well, you're in business. Sunn Beta bass/lead amps wouldn't be bad either.

The main problem with the majority of these amps is the fact that some of them are hard to find at a decent price, or, they're just plain hard to find in the first place. That and, they're used. You may have to do some serious shopping my friend.

Thanks for the info man. This actually gives me a much wider selection and idea of what to look for.

Engl amps have a nice, thick, warm sound that would sound pretty great for Doom.

I don't even really know what it's worth, I haven't played guitar in awhile and it just sits around. It's from the early 90s I think, I bought it used from my old guitar teacher years ago. I actually hadn't even thought of selling it until I saw this thread.

Engl's are VERY nice, but they are a bit on the expensive side. But at least with Engls, you really get what you pay for.

Gimme the model of both the amp and the cab (and the speakers in the cab, if you could), and I'll give you a rough estimate of how much you can sell it for.

It's a start.

Well, the JCM 800 head will fetch a decent amount more than a JCM 900, and if the JCM 800 is old enough, it'll fetch you even more (thats only if it's pre-1984).

Still though, the JCM 900 will fetch you approximately $600-$800 depending on the condition.

The cab either way will get you about $300-$600, and that has several factors involved, mainly the cab's integrity and the speakers integrity.

I need the specific model of JCM though. I need to know if its like a JCM 800 2203, or a JCM 900 2100.

So I'm sure it's a 900 head and 800 cab after looking at pictures of them. I won't know the specific model until I can see, but in terms of condition they're definitely not mint. Cosmetically there are some minor tears and such, but it's functionally sound.

ok, as long as its not falling apart, it won't knock too much off. Minor wear and tear on gear that old is expected.
