As we all know, Heavy Metal is predominantly male. But this is changing, and of course it only be a good thing. ITT we fap to female musicians and talk about female metalheads. But mainly fap to female muscians.


I have known a few girls who don't seem to be very dedicated to metal. They're sort of "on and off". One day they're headbanging to [true] metal and the next day the love is gone. Or they eventually stop listening to music altogether. Of course, if you consider the number of male posers out there, this is hardly a big deal. But I have personally not known many females who are that dedicated. There are some who would like only female-fronted bands, and like Opeth because Akerfeldt is hot. Thoughts? Experiences?

Looking back, I realise that the ones that were most into the genre were probably female. Rare, I know. Compared to the dude trying to convince me Synyster Gates is the greatest guitarist still going, that Turisas fangirl isn't looking so bad.

I think whilst there are fewer in number, the ratio of those who actually dig the genre is probably higher, particularly past the terrible teen years where cool rules. Guys I think get wrapped up in the lifestyle more easily, whereas that probably appeals less to women, resulting in the likelihood that if they're listening to the music, its because they like the music.

At the shows I see around here there are a fair bit of female metalheads. A few seem to come off as the stereotypical-nowadays metalwhore sort but for the most part, they seem like ordinary fans.
