The amazing thing about Dan Brown is how many mistakes remain in his books after being looked over by an editor. The only thing I can think is that there were originally so many mistakes that the editor got tired of correcting them after a while and just stopped. Dan Brown is pretty much the Stephenie Meyer of adult fiction.
