This is one that needed to be made I'll kick it off. I have no idea what the difference is between a drum fill and a drum roll. From my understanding a fill was a short interlude in the beat, a quick short burst of creativity to break things up. But isn't a roll more or less the same thing? Or does it just include use of toms (if it uses cymbals its suddenly a fill)? or is there some time limit (oops, you were half a second too long; thats now a fill)? Bleh. Oh, and I dont think Julian does either. Even where he once dissected the drums into describing the timbre of each individual cymbal, he still left it as "fills and rolls"

Drum fill = short little "drum solo", exactly like a guitar fill Drum roll = a specific technique, created by rapid strokes to make a "sustained" sound as if it were a long note. It's usually like RLRLRLRLRLRLRL or RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL, etc.

Confession: I'm skipping class right now because I'd rather be online, listening to music and taking a piss.

I have given up on getting him into more underground metal. He's like 7 years older than me and still listens to deathcore and groove metal primarily.

My brothers are like that too. I've learned that Metalhead conversion is only possible if the person starts to show a genuine love for music. If they are "casual listeners", they usual fall for the catchy stuff. That too for a limited amount of time till they find another colorful artist to bob their head to.

He is a pretty die-hard fan. He's not just a casual listener. He goes to shows alot and buys alot of cd's but I guess deathcore and groove metal are his thing.

don't try converting people, you'll just make yourself look like an ass recommend them the big bands when they ask for something, but don't force your bands on them
